Ride to Walnut Canyon National Monument

Event date:
Wed, 05/06/2026 - 8:00am

David Hayes is leading this ride to the Walnut Canyon National Monument outside Flagstaff. Once you are at the destination you can enjoy views from the top of the canyon and a visitors center, and (if you are up for it) take a not-too-long hike down into the canyon to enjoy close-up views of the rock formations and ancient cliff dwellings. More info about the canyon is on the National Park Service website.

The route goes through Payson (first gas and comfort stop) then Pine and on to Lake Mary Road. Lunch is at the Agave Mexican Restaurant before heading to the national monument, the final destination. Weather should be pleasant, with an average high of 68 degrees in Flagstaff this time of year.

This is a long ride, 180 miles to the destination (and not counting your return trip), hence the early KSU. Arrive at HDOS at 7:30am for the route and safety briefing, KSU is 8am.
